PVC (polyvinylchloride) is a thermoplastic. It is relatively cheap kind of plastic with many processing possibilities. PVC is often used instead of concrete and wood. PVC is watery clear and a very good ink adhesion, so it is ideal for printing. PVC sheets are resistant to salt water, unlike many other plastics.
