PC-ABS sheet
PC-ABS is a blend or 'alloy' made of Polycarbonate (PC) and ABS (acrylonitril butadieen styreen).
In contrast of co-polymers - where there are several monomers in the same chain of polymers - this blend of PC-ABS exists of two individual polymers often called a blend or 'alloy'.
PC/ABS is a modern solution for demanding thermoforming applications.
PC-ABS sheet: the best of two worlds.
This blend of PC-ABS has been developped to combine the characteristics of PC and ABS.
The polycarbonate takes care of the mechanical properties, like the high heat resistance (> 100°C). The ABS part takes care for good processing characteristics like thermoforming.
PC-ABS: 1 + 1 is more than two !
PC-ABS is one of the only blends that - apart from the combination of the characteristics of polycarbonate and ABS - offers an extra synergetic advantage. The impact resistance of PC-ABS can not reached by far by one of the basic polymers.
This is the reason why PC/ABS ATECH 5103:.02-R118-7-8 complies with fire and safety regulations for busses.
Density: 1,15 - this can be somewhat different depending on the ratio of PC and ABS.

PC/ABS: possibilities
JAG Plastix offers two blends o PC/ABS in the core layer: 50/50 and 70/30 of PC/ABS: depending on the application there is more PC for extra impact resistance. There is a choice to get PC/ABS with or without UV stability. PC/ABS can be chosen in different colours and with different surface structures / embossings.
PC/ABS ATECH 5100: PC/ABS with a matt ABS surface layer on one, or both sides.
PC/ABS ATECH 5103:.02-R118-7-8: PC/ABS-based product that meets Annex 6, 7 & 8 of the ECE R118.03 regulation, ensuring compliance with fire safety requirements for bus interiors.
